Emberfall Legends

Emberfall Legends is a proper role-playing game that respects the small screen. You gather a party of four, each with a distinct role, and work through a fantasy campaign about a fading sun and the towns going dark because of it. The writing is a step above the usual mobile fare — there are actual choices that shape a few side stories.

Combat is turn-based but paced fast, with skills mapped to big readable buttons along the bottom. You can auto-battle the easy fights and take manual control when a boss shows up, which is exactly the balance a phone game should offer.

Gear and leveling are deep enough to tinker with but not so grindy that you feel taxed. We played mostly in short bursts and never felt punished for it.
