Can Strategy Games Really Work On A Touchscreen?
Strategy is a genre that seems built for a mouse and a big monitor, so I always approach mobile strategy with low expectations. Then something like Tidewatch Command comes along and reminds me it can be done.
The trick is designing around deliberate, turn-based decisions instead of fast clicking. When the tension comes from planning your supply routes rather than aiming units in real time, a touchscreen stops being a handicap.
What I love is when a game makes every resource decision hurt a little. Pulling defenders off one island to save another should feel like a gamble, and the good ones make you sweat it.
If you're new to the genre on mobile, start with something slower and turn-based. Real-time strategy on a phone is usually a mess of missed taps and frustration.
